2 and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets.
3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. (Luke 5:2-3).
11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.
(Luke 5:11)

24 Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the forty lashes less one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea;
26 on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, danger from robbers, danger from my own people, danger from Gentiles, danger in the city, danger in the wilderness, danger at sea, danger from false brothers;
27 in toil and hardship, through many a sleepless night, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure.
28 And, apart from other things, there is the daily pressure on me of my anxiety for all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? 2 Corinthians 11:24-29

Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life. 36 Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.
37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated— 38 of whom the world was not worthy— (Hebrews 11:35-38a)
Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. (John 16:33)
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24)
God’s idea of your best future is not the same as our culture’s idea of your best future.
If following Jesus is that costly, how can any of us call it your best future?
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth… 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, (Matthew 6:19-20a)
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:14)
There’s one thing you CAN take with you to heaven. It’s people.
So that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things. (2 Peter 1:15)
Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross… (Hebrews 12:1-2)
